The template belongs to the schema "Digital Product Passport" (first schema, version 1). It has a header row with all columns and two sample rows that you overwrite or delete. A detailed guide to filling in and importing is available at Create a Digital Product Passport from Excel.
Column overview
The template has four master data columns and eight data fields of the schema.
Master data
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
product_id | Leave empty for new products. It is filled in the export and assigns the row to the product on re-import. |
name | Product name, required for new products |
category | Product category, optional |
manufacturer_ref | Your article number. If it is unique, the product is updated through it. |
Data fields of the first schema
| Column | Topic block | Data type | Required for the passport |
|---|---|---|---|
manufacturer_name | Identification and manufacturer | Text | yes |
product_name | Identification and manufacturer | Text | yes |
product_category | Identification and manufacturer | Text | yes |
country_of_origin | Identification and manufacturer | Text | yes |
certificate_ref | Conformity and certificates | Document reference | yes |
material_composition | Composition and materials | Text | no |
co2_footprint | Sustainability and CO₂ | Number | no |
recycling_info | Recycling and end of life | Text | no |
In the platform, the value in co2_footprint carries the label "placeholder, methodology pending", because no binding calculation methodology exists yet for the CO₂ footprint. Enter only values you can substantiate. certificate_ref should contain only non-confidential details such as the name and date of a declaration of conformity, because the field is publicly visible.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I need an account to download?
No. You download the template with the buttons on this page without registering.
- Do I have to fill in all columns?
No. Empty cells are skipped and change nothing. Only the name of new products is required. For the passport itself, some schema fields are marked as required.
- Excel or CSV, which is better?
The Excel file also has a Notes sheet describing every column. The CSV file uses a semicolon and UTF-8 and opens directly in German Excel.
